I have found the volumes in the Reformed Expository Commentary Series to be most helpful in my understanding of Scripture. They would be helpful to you and your people for devotional studies, small group study, and sermon prep. P&R Publishing has provided a wonderful resource to the church with this series. Below is their video introduction to the series.

There are three gems in the series you do not want to overlook as you consider Christmas week deovtions with the family and/or sermon preparation. Matthew is a two-volume set by Daniel Doriani. You can read the table of contents here and a sample chapter here.

Luke is a two-volume set by Philip Graham Ryken. If you have used any of Ryken’s commentaries before, you know what great things to expect of this exposition of Luke! You can read the table of contents here and a sample chapter here.

Finally, there is Incarnation in the Gospels, by Doriani, Ryken, and Richard Phillips. You can read the Table of Contents here and a sample chapter here. This is a description of the work:

This seasonal addition to the Reformed Expository Commentary series presents twelve biblically and theologically grounded Christmas messages, as the authors explore the canonical teaching on the birth of jesus Christ in the gospels of Matthew, Luke, and John

As a sample of the exposition found in the series, this volume is acessible to both pastors and lay readers. Each commentary gives careful attention to the biblical text, is doctrinally Reformed, focuses on Christ through the lens of redemptive history, and applies tthe Bible to our contemporary setting.

All Christians seeking a deep, worshipful, and gospel-centered Advent season will benefit from the insight and worship material in this helpful commentary.
