Pingback: For Calvinism, Against Calvinism | A Man from Issachar
Thank you for your thoughts. This passage leveled me like a 2×4 to the head. Haggai 2:17 speaks to God’s actions to produce repentance as well. It is tough to hear, but a greater tragedy is experiencing difficult situations and having the time to repent but not doing so.

Thank you for your comments. Remember, violent death is only one means to bring about the end that any of us must face, whether saint or sinner. God is justified in that all will die (save the return of Christ). The deaths of those who know him are precious to him.

I really like your paper and your argument makes sense. however, the only objection I have and I don’t know how you will justify this, is if God is justified in leetin people die a death because of their sinfulness, what about the people that were not sinful on that bridge? The christians (who do not possess a sin nature no more) who died they are not sinful, so how is that justifed. I know God is glorified but how is the action justifiable.

Eric, thanks for your fine and patient examination of the passage and the issue. As you noted, one of the characteristics of Calvin’s writings was his willingness to accept mystery in God. Unfortunately, the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob is not “manageable.”
